Perth is currently undergoing an exciting period of expansion with a number of developments that are breathing new life into the city, transforming it into an exciting and vibrant new destination for residents and tourists alike.
These projects will see a dramatic period of growth within Perth over the next 10 years, forecasting economic growth, more jobs and huge investment opportunities (MRA, 2019). Reflecting Perth’s position as one of the top 20 most liveable cities in the world (Business News, 2019), these projects will promote Perth’s great geographic location, weather and attractive lifestyle, while offering great potential for investments in energy, minerals, tourism, agriculture and of course, the construction industry.
The state government has collaborated with development partner Lendlease to transform more than 100 hectares of land in East Perth into a riverfront community and an exciting new tourist destination.
The area will stretch from Perth Stadium and the Burswood Peninsula across the river to East Perth, completely renewing the eastern gateway to the city with apartments, hotels, cycle paths, shops, bars, cafés and an ‘urban beach’. The six-hectare Waterbank precinct, which is expected to attract $2b in investment, is set to be completed by 2030.
The Perth City Link project, which has already seen the connection of the CBD and Northbridge, will continue development to transform what was once a structure of bus and train stations into a 13.5 hectare space of housing, shops, public spaces, restaurants, gyms, offices and more.
Once complete, the Link is expected to house a population that is equivalent to that of Broome! The space, which is to be completed in the next 10-15 years, is expected to attract new investment for Perth.
Did you know the New Museum for Western Australia is currently one of the most significant museum redevelopments in the world? The $395.9 million project, which is expected to open its doors in 2020, will see the innovative fusion of the refurbished heritage buildings with modern architecture, adding a 1,000 square metre space and nearly 6,000 square metres of galleries. It will even include a central energy plant that will see the reduction of CO2 emissions and energy use in the Perth Cultural Centre by up to 40%!
